Group Lessons:
Group lessons allow for new concepts and literature to be introduced in a setting that affords a social environment in which students are supported, motivated and challenged by their peers. Group lessons provide a wider range of experience - discussion, critical listening, study of historical contexts, structural analysis, collective decision-making, in addition to providing a ready made performance audience. (Christopher Fisher "Teaching Piano in Groups") Students in the early to late elementary levels will receive 1 one-hour group lesson and 1 half-hour private lesson each week.
Participating in group lessons builds
- social interaction and peer networking
- leadership skills
- cooperative skills
- stronger rhythmic foundation
- positive physical, intellectual, social, emotional and spiritual growth
Partner (Dyad) Lessons:
Partner Lessons are reserved for intermediate to advancing students. Students are partnered with another student of near age and ability. Each student receives 1 one-hour lesson each week together with the other student. Each student receives a half-hour of bench time and a half-hour of skill building time. This format allows for a group dynamic in the advancing student which fosters:
- a sense of accountability
- healthy competition
- listening skills
- conceptual and skill comprehension
- cooperation
- peer encouragement
Adult Lesson/Recreational Music Making Classes:
Adult Group Lessons are open to 4 students at a time. While offering the same benefits as above, Adult Group Lessons also offer the opportunity to learn piano for those who "always wanted to try that" or for those who "used to be able to do that". Group lessons for Adults offers a non-standard repertoire and very fun environment. Visual, hearing and physical impairments will be accommodated as much as possible. You are NEVER too old to learn!
Private Lessons Only:
Lessons are available for private-only (no partner or group attachments) and offered to advancing students only. These lessons are offered in one-hour segments. Standard repertoire will be the main focus of these lessons.
